CZI Medical Vision
26 Oct 2025
I heard a compelling interview with Dr. Priscilla Chan of Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, who is asking the question “Is it possible to cure, prevent and manage all disease by the end of this century?” They believe the answer is yes, and I concur. In fact, if we light such a candle in the center of our office and vow to do our part to contribute whole heartedly to this mission we will not only be progressing with some of the brightest minds and hearts of this period of humanity but we will also be called to frontiers of discovery where we can still experience the reverie of true innovation.
When I began my career I worked in a research lab at a hospital. On my lunch breaks I would go to the library and read. That’s when I learned to read articles to track the pareto front of knowledge (against igornance) in my discipline. I didn’t have my AI research buddies, but would have loved to have ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor in that library with me. I was surrounded by illness at the hospital. I am sensitive to social weather. I learned shades of fatigue and despair in the cafeteria and lobbies that I’ll never forget.
Let’s get this done and have fun and build hearty community along the way. Thank you Dr. Priscilla Chan for saying it clear and saying it right. This vision will be achieved with the world’s care force, our ever-evolving technologies, a humanity-championing AGI emerging in the wings (I imagine interleaving a clever presence of always here and never here, as things of such magnitude can go), and non-flimsy, but tethered to fire, hope.
